The Old Head
Published in 1998, this 64–page volume of the Hampton University Museum’s The International Review of African American Art is dedicated to the Hampton University Museum’s exhibition Faithful Voices: Five Decades of African American Art, and to transnational artists, curators and critics. Organized by the Hampton University Museum, Faithful Voices, an exhibition of 35 works by nine esteemed artists opened October 18th, 1998 as one of a series of events taking place that week at Hampton to pay tribute to President and Mrs. William R. Harvey’s 20 years of service to Hampton University, and to kick–off a $200 million capital campaign, the largest and most ambitious fundraising effort in the University’s history. Coverage of several transnational artists, curators and critics, the Johannesburg Biennale, and the careers of mother–daughter duo Jenelsie and Charnelle Holloway are also featured. Included in this issue are many color and black & white photographs of artists’ works, with very insightful commentaries by highly respected art reviewers.
