Liz Cherry Jones was a textile artist and historian whose work embodied themes of storytelling, imagination, and ancestral knowledge. Jones’ Working Cloth #1 shows various elements of The Southern Workman which was a naturally-circulated journal covering African American culture, industry, history, and culture.

Working Cloth #1 also represents Jones’ ability to visually stitch together histories that are often hidden or untold, producing an intricate tapestry that brings that knowledge to the forefront.
