$40.00

Published in 1977, this 68–page volume of the Hampton University Museum’s Black Art: an International Quarterly (predecessor to The International Review of African American Art) is dedicated to the careers of Dana Chandler, Mildred Thompson, and Varnette Honeywood. In addition, this issue features the architecture of the Somba people, 12 hints for collecting African American art from artist Alvin C. Hollingsworth, and a photographic essay by Carroll Parrot Blue. Finally, a comprehensive exhibition of Howard University’s African contemporary art, and the significance of Black curators, directors and institutions in the proliferation of Black art are discussed. Included in this issue are many color and black & white photographs of artists’ works, and very insightful commentaries by highly respected art reviewers.
