A Prodigy Dashed by Misfortune: John Farrar (1927–1972)
Published in 2003, this 64–page volume of the Hampton University Museum’s The International Review of African American Art is dedicated to the careers of John Farrar, Sam Middleton and Edward Loper, Sr. In addition, this issue commemorates the 25th year of Dr. William R. Harvey and Norma B. Harvey’s role as Hampton University’s 12th President and First Lady, and the 88th birthday of sculptor, printmaker and activist Elizabeth Catlett, whose birthday celebration was held at the Stella Jones Gallery in March 2003. Snapshots of the works and careers of then–emerging artists, Gary Eugene Jefferson, Dori Lemeh, Kira Lynn Harris, and Carol M. White are also featured. Included in this issue are many color and black & white photographs of artists’ works, with very insightful commentaries by highly respected art reviewers.
