$40.00

Published in 1977, this 68–page volume of the Hampton University Museum’s Black Art: an International Quarterly (predecessor to The International Review of African American Art) is dedicated to the works of artist/educator Larry Walker, printmaker Frémez, and artists Kenneth Falana and Chester Williams. In addition, Betye Saar, Cyn Zacco, David Hendersen, and Josine Ianco–Starrels offer a unique collaboration of image and poem, and Camille Billops chronicles the development of the Hatch–Billops collection with her husband, James V. Hatch through a series of photographs in this journal. Finally, this issue features a small portfolio of works by artist/educator Raymond Saunders and reviews The Arts of Ghana exhibition which was on view at the UCLA’s Museum of Cultural History through December 1977. The exhibition featured the recreation of a Ghanaian durbar, a traditional celebration with colorful dress, music and banners, in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden. Included in this issue are many color and black & white photographs of artists’ works, and very insightful commentaries by highly respected art reviewers.
